Ruapotaka's Manaiakalani Ambassador!!

On Wednesday the 30th of May 2018, Mrs Golder and I went to Somerville School that use to be Tamaki Intermediate for my presentation about Road Safety. The reason why was because I was the Manaiakalani Ambassador for my school, Ruapotaka.

My teacher and I typed a speech on how I made my slideshow and how my learning journey began. I practised first in front of my teacher and a couple of teachers who hosted the programme. I read from another chromebook that they gave to me.

Finally it was my turn. I was about to shake when I told myself to get on with it and you will feel better when you are finished. At the end of my speech they all clapped as I said Faafetai Lava which means Thank You in Samoan. In the car, Mrs Golder said I am proud of you, you did good.

Road Safety Learning

In the last few weeks, I made a google slide about my Road Safety learning. Learning about this helped me become more aware of the dangers and hazards of roads and vehicles . I enjoyed it because I had help from my teachers and classmates. The more I read and shared my learning  with my classmates,  the more my prior knowledge was extended. Enjoy!!

Watch Out!!!

The earthquake hit the north of Christchurch near Hanmer Springs at 12:02 in the morning. The earthquake struck 16m deep. It was then followed by more than a dozen aftershocks across the country including two 6.2 magnitude quakes near Kaikoura.

A tsunami warning has been issued to a number of areas around New Zealand. This includes all of the East Coast of New Zealand, both in the North Island and the South.  A 2m tsunami has hit Kaikoura.

Earthquake Advice: If you are in a house and a earthquake is going, please do not go outside sightseeing. Stay inside and remember to DROP, COVER and HOLD.

Tsunami Advice: If you are on a beach and the you see the sea getting sucked in, and you see the sea level getting higher, get to higher ground quickly.

My Cress!

We were learning about how plants grow and seeds sprout. We grew cress  and sprouted broad beans in class. We watched how water moves through plants by putting celery in coloured water.

This is how my cress changed over time.

A Poem For A Soldier

On 25th April 2015, it was the 100th anniversary of ANZAC soldiers landing at Gallipoli.  We learnt lots of things about life and war for the ANZAC soldiers when we visited Auckland Museum in April.  We created poppies, we have written poems and letters about ANZAC and World War 1.

I have chosen to share my poem because I read it in front of the school. I have learnt that we wear poppies on ANZAC Day.
